Settlement and Seclusion on the Edge of Town

An unmaintained stretch of road south of Lawrence, Kansas links the visitor to several commonplace themes in American, and perhaps global, suburban life. Finding evidence of the themes only happens when one actually walks through the landscape, talks with residents, sees the places where their stories have taken place, and has the mud on one’s shoes to prove it.
